ANTICO is a project bringing together Lorenzo Urciullo (Colapesce), a Sicilian singer-songwriter with a strong focus on language and storytelling, percussionist Alfio Antico and Mario Conte, a musician, producer and sound researcher. The trio was born out of a desire to engage with ancient repertoires, folk traditions, Mediterranean songs and material from the collective memory, not from a philological perspective, but as living material to be transformed. Archaic melodies, folk lyrics and ritual fragments are interwoven with electronic sounds, acoustic instruments, percussion, drones and samples, in a compositional approach that blends narrative with soundscape. The project is part of an approach that views tradition as an archive to be reactivated, not merely preserved: the past is not merely referenced, but brought back into circulation, within a present that brings out its unexpected resonances. Colapesce Antico works with memory as a creative process, not as nostalgia, and explores the possibility of bringing to the fore, within the contemporary, an archaic dimension that remains profoundly relevant today.
