From the case of the Tomorrowland Festival in Belgium, which faced fines of up to 2 million euros for using single-use plastic cups, to the outstanding reach of Massive Attack’s concert “Act 1.5”, the importance of addressing environmental issues is now undeniable. Nevertheless, reaching the goal involves facing frustration, critical judgments, and unsatisfactory results.
This roundtable outlines a roadmap for sustainable practices in music production, focusing on a green agenda that guides festivals and events step by step. It examines initiatives implemented before, during and after events, noting that despite the availability of many proven solutions, the expansion of sustainable practices has stalled. The discussion explores the barriers hindering further progress and seeks to define a clear and structured path from the initial development of green strategies to the practical execution of operational plans, emphasizing the importance of enhancing the process for sustainable growth.
