Massimo Silverio

Massimo Silverio

Massimo Silverio, born in 1992, is an author and musician born and raised in Cercivento (UD),in the heart of the cultural region of Carnia. He writes and sings in his native language, Cjarniel, a traditional idiom of the Carnic Alps.
Fascinated by the context of the border region and the history of an ancient language, Silverio forms his very personal language made of poetry and sounds that blend classical and contemporary, popular and refined, acoustic, electro acoustic, and electronic.
“I was always inspired by the sound and meaning of the words that I heard my grandparents and parents speak. Timbres, melodies, and nuances of meaning that I couldn’t find in the language spoken by my peers. As a result, for my music, I decided to use the language of my heart, the metrics and the spirit of the Friulian ballad combined with a raw, evocative sound full of contrasts.”
His creative journey began at a very young age leading to the creation of an imaginary world made of places, faces, and ancient rituals, which he translated into music through the use of classical instruments such as cello, double bass, prepared percussion, piano, and folk instruments like the guzla - an instrument from the Dinaric Alps. He also includes synthesizers, guitars, organs, and most importantly, vocals – which occupy a central position on his stage with their gentle and intimate timbres, blending Carnic and English to voice out experiences that are local, and yet universal.
Following the release of 2 self-produced EPs, in 2023 he published his first album titled "HRUDJA," – created in collaboration with producer Manuel Volpe (Rhabdomantic Orchestra) and with the contribution of Piedmontese musician and performer Nicholas Remondino (Lamie, Stefano Battaglia, Vieri Cervelli Montel). Together, they created a work full of contrasts, oscillating between sounds and silences echoing from the edges of a musical genre.
"Hrudja" is the Lombard precursor of the word "Grusa," which in Friulian refers to the scab forming over a wound, a metaphor for rebirth and healing but also a symbol, a reminder of something fading away.
The album is set to release on November 24, 2023, produced by Okum Produzioni, and anticipated by the singles "Nijo" and “Jeva”.
