MACE (pseudonym of Simone Benussi) is one of the most important and acknowledged producers in the Italian music scene. In 2021, after nearly 20 years working as a collaborator with the most significant Italian rappers and an intense career as a DJ, he released his first album, “OBE”. The album, which includes major guest artists, left an indelible mark on the Italian music scene and was anticipated by the single "LA CANZONE NOSTRA," featuring Salmo and BLANCO. This track became one of the most iconic songs of the last decade, earning six platinum records.
“OBE” ranked number one on Spotify's "Global Top 10 Album Debuts" chart (for the most-listened-to albums worldwide within the first 72 hours of release) and became one of the best-selling albums of 2021, remaining in the top 10 of the FIMI / GfK chart for 14 weeks, as well as achieving double platinum certification.
His second release “OLTRE,” is a 12-track instrumental album that follows the producer's exploration of ultrasensory and psychedelic sounds. In addition to his solo project, MACE has produced major hits such as “Ho Paura di Uscire 2” by Salmo and Lazza, “Chic” by Izi, “Pamplona” by Fabri Fibra, “10 Ragazze” by Rkomi and Ernia, and the entire album “DNA” by Ghali. The list of artists he has collaborated with (including Marracash, Geolier, Mengoni, Venerus, Colapesce, and Gue) is extensive and diverse. Throughout his career, MACE has been an active participant in at least three major contemporary musical turning points: the rise of rap from the underground to mainstream dominance, the impact of the internet on electronic music, and the decline of the West's centrality in the global musical discourse – each time taking and settling into the nuances of these shifts.
In 2017, he spent a few months in Africa, moving to Johannesburg, where he worked with local artists including Sjava, with whom he created "Umama," an Afrobeat track that reached number 1 on South African radio. On Diplo's label (who has frequently played MACE's tracks on his radio shows),he released a track with MC Bin Laden, a star of Brazilian Baile Funk, and held an annual residency on the Japanese radio station Tokyo. Fm.
In anticipation of the new album “MAYA,” which was released on Friday, April 5, he released the singles "NON MI RICONOSCO ≠," in collaboration with SALMO and the young artist centomilacarie, as well as "RUGGINE ∞" with Coez and Chiello, published by Island Records / Universal Music Italia. On October 18, 2024, he will hold his first concert at the Forum in Milan.
